What is WMI

Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) is management technology for Windows operating systems. Since the release of Win NT 4.0 SP4 all windows versions supports this technology. WMI uses DCOM (TCP 135) to handle remote calls, make sure that port is open in the Firewall or router.

Command line options
wstd.exe options computer [user] [password]

Options:
-d    switch to dialog mode. Press Ctrl-C to quit dialog mode.
-l      logout
-lf    force logout
-s    shutdown
-sf   force shutdown
-r     reboot
-rf    force reboot
-p    power off
-pf    force power off


Examples:

wstd.exe -sf pc                                command to force shutdown computer "pc";
wstd.exe -s pc1 administrator 123     shutdown computer "pc" with logon with specified user name and password;
wstd.exe -d.
 
System Requirements:
Local PC:
Windows 2000, XP, server 2003 operating systems.
Remote PC:
Windows 2000, XP, 2003; Windows 98/NT with WMI installed, Not supports Windows XP Home Edition.
